How did you get into art?
I tried to avoid it and wanted to study medicine. The passing over of genes from my parents whose artistic abilities I inherited combined with an environment fertile for the seeds of my natural talents. This caused me to seek, in hindsight, the obvious role I now fell into. I draw a lot.
How do you get inspiration for the pieces you produce?
Literature, good sci fi like Philip K. Dick, the constant acquisition of knowledge with which to mould ideas from, whether it be first hand experience by placing myself in ridiculous situations, or walking in the hills with a dog by my side observing my surroundings and feeding on the information at hand. This is opposed to second hand knowledge , found in books, comics, music and even the medium of television and film. Both equal in their offerings though differing in content as with any new situation, something can always be learnt, and since thought is not original and nor can it be, it is the constant acquisition of stimulation allowing for movement from the origin that gives me inspiration.
What has been your best creation to date?
The day to day maintenance of my facial hair that distinguishes me from my fellow man ... like LLCoolJ back in the day (stipulate back in the day as in Bad), meets Rasputin ... Constantly developing myself and have a few plans/projects in the sweatshop , some in the mind , these will be great works. But as yet the main aesthetic element developing within Mono clothing company can be attributed to my labours.
Last CD you bought/downloaded/shoplifted?
Don`t buy CDs only invest in vinyl, like a fingerprint that describes music, it is a visual record of the music contained on the record with a greater depth of sound than the aforementioned medium. Though I did steal an old 78 recently from an antique shop in an act of censorship, destroying the record after leaving the premises . This was due to the nature of the nursery rhyme entitled “Little nigger Boys“ on this antiquated vinyl relic of a passing age.
What make you happy?
A care free existence without stress that is so hard to achieve and near as impossible to sustain whilst still being myself and irritating a large proportion of the populace.
What makes you sad?
All the normal stuff but am growing a thicker skin with age and most stuff just rolls off, it is not productive to spend time sad or upset.
Last book you read?
`A Case of Curiosities` by Alan Kurzweil. Set in late eighteenth century Paris, capturing the essence of the time and of the extraordinary persons involved, blending invention, art, pornography and rotary automatons . Damn good read in the vain of Perfume (Patrick Suskind) , a rare treat of a book I daresay.
Any trouble with the long arm of the law with your outdoor pieces?
News paper spread describing my placements with a few photos calling upon action against vandalism , get chased now and then but stay fit , because a healthy body supports a healthy mind , and use the routes That cross through the urban sprawl that allow you to move unseen, for example, rooftops, railways, canals, alleyways . There is no excuse for getting caught, I probably will tomorrow.
What else do like other than art?
Breakdancing, turntablism, producing Hip Hop/Breaks, knife throwing.
How much of your time do you spend creating?
All of it except when i`m sleeping or entertaining d`yer gets me.
Sex, drugs & rock'n'roll?
Books, Drugs, Audio books, draw, sex, sleep, repeat.
Any regrets?
Probably, not that I can remember. Being born in this time frame because the past and future both may offer me points of interest, answering question I have long sought answers to. However the implications of time travel negate the possibility of its use, leaving the impossibility of me being born in a different time, which, even if it were to happen may not be in hindsight to my liking.
Final thoughts...
Responsibility of the consumer to create a better media industry by taking responsibility for their purchases, enabling thought provoking, original and generally much better music and television to be broadcast to an unsuspecting public. Humankind`s obsession with automata .
Wishing to be god like, built in his image, how we desire to pass on this legacy and create something in our own image. Simultaneously how similar humans are to robots , sliping into routines easily, commanded by patterns that create pathways for us to follow naively believing ourselves to be fully conscious beings, independently calculating our actions rather than being dictated by our previous reactions.
Also why, when I was a child I thought communicators on star trek were amazing, and now i`ve got one I think they`re s&*t. Not that I particularly like Star Trek but the original series, featuring the talents of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, has a quaint appeal. Generally not a vision of the future I would relish, the original unremastered star wars trilogy was good, more dystopic and decayed, but my dream of being an intergalactic rogue star pilot are just that, so I paint what I want to see on my adventures instead.
