How did you get into art?
It was a release from being on the computer all day so I started painting when ever I could.
How do you get inspiration for the pieces you produce?
Mainly images that I see on TV or on the bike on my way to work. I ride my bicycle along a railyard on my way home from work, so I get a ton of ideas from looking at the rail cars. I love the collaboration of the weathered matte colors of the train, the corporate logos printed on the cars and the inter-play of graffiti. A lot of times ideas will come when working out a design problem at the design firm.
What has been your best creation to date?
I don't know, probably something I've done recently.
How much do you think hype affects the public perception of what good art is?
I don't think the public can perceive much of anything. I think there are a very small percentage of people who could decide for themselves what they like, but most are sheep.
Last CD you bought/downloaded/shoplifted?
Driving Miss Daisy Soundtrack.
How did you feel when you realised that art could make you some money?
Suprised, I started selling quite a few pieces last year. It's great, it pays for the supplies and I don't have to store a bunch of finished work.
Why do so many people spend money on music yet so few buy art?
Because CD's are so cheap in comparison, I guess.
How is your local art scene?
Getting better, we just had a massive sculpture park put in and the local art museum SAM has just had a major renovation and expansion. The BLVD Gallery where I show seems to be getting more and more interest.
Describe your ideal day?
Having time to paint.
Sex, drugs or rock n roll?
Sex and some rock. No drugs, ex-junkie.
Last book you read?
I have dyslexia, it's hard to read.
Most treasured possession?
My bike.
Tell us a secret?
I was in the Marine Corps for 4 years. Hated it.
Quote us your favourite song lyric?
"A man needs a maid".
Is there a downside to being so talented?
I'm not that talented. "It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be".
Ask yourself (and answer) a question?
What's your favorite color?
Black.
What's your worst habit?
I drink too much coffee.
Any close encounters with the law?
Got ticketed for riding my bike on the freeway once.
What else do like other than art?
Film, I like watching Criterion Collection movies. The design and packaging is so good.
Any regrets?
Not really.
Final thoughts?
Thanks.
