How did you get into art?
I was given an old diary which I filled with drawings of people and animals when I was about 5 yrs old.
How do you get inspiration for the pieces you produce?
I'm influenced by what I see all around me. Different countries, places, scenery & people. Experiences whilst going about the day-to-day may get drawn upon too. Other than that just weird things that run around my head get transfered to the screen.
What has been your best creation to date?
My clothing label, Knofler. It's a tool I love for putting some of my images onto one of the best canvasses there is: The T-shirt.
How much do you think hype affects the public perception of what good art is?
Hype can generate interest, a view point and often a trumped up image of art from the general public. People love a bit of mystery or intrigue with their subject. What others think or say about a piece of artwork will colour the opinon of a viewer. On their own the viewer simply needs to like for what they're looking at. They will decide what's 'good' personally aside from how hype has influenced them in the end.
Last CD you bought/downloaded/shoplifted?
Quantic - Tropidelico (bought it).
How did you feel when you realised that art could make you some money?
Pleased. As they say if you find something to make your living from that you enjoy doing you'll never work a day in your life.
Why do so many people spend money on music yet so few buy art?
Audio appeals more than visual alone.
How is your local art scene?
Booming! Can't spit for hitting some art down here. It's a hot bed of talent.
What makes you happy?
My girlfriend, food & drink, music/DJing, stickers, seeing my work in quantity, visiting new places/countries, sunny weather by the seaside.
What makes you sad?
Realising when I've wasted time on something or someone.
What's it like to be interviewed?
Quite novel.
Sex, drugs or rock n roll?
Sex.
Last book you read?
Blink. The power of thinking without thinking - Malcolm Gladwell.
What's your favourite soup?
Home made Broccoli & blue cheese. In fact any home made soup.
Tell us a secret?
I have a hollow leg. It's where I put allthe food I eat. People are always wondering as I'm slim still...
Quote us your favourite song lyric?
"Out of the tree of life I just picked me a plum. You came along and everything started to hum. Still it's a real good bet the best is yet to come."
Is there a downside to being so talented?
I hope not. As long as I don't forget it's a gift to be able to do it.
What's your worst habit?
Being fashionably late...
Any close encounters with the law?
Funny one years back. Got pulled over by an unmarked police car for speeding in my (then) Mini in along the A1, in London. It was just around the time that Four Weddings & A Funeral came out and when stopped and questioned " What's the speed limit on this road?" I answered "40mph." "And how fast were you going?" I answered "More than that?..." Knowing full well I was doing about 70. The officer stated my speed and then chatted about the movie and whether I'd seen it. He laughed as he made the comment about Hugh Grant racing to the church in a clapped out Mini and that he was more surprised at my speed as he didn't think the car could go that fast! Ha ha. I was let off with a verbal warning and told to observe the limits in future.
What else do you like other than art?
Travel. I've been lucky enough to have done a fair bit over the years. There's still a lot to cover on my wish list though. I gave into temptation and bought myself a PSP. Eating out. Eating out (;-)) Classic cars. Vespas. Castles. Living by the sea and also being near the countryside in a city.
Any regrets?
Nope. How else would I learn if I'd not made a few errors to improve on?
Final thoughts?
Put ya knickers on and make me a cuppa tea!
