How did you get into art?
It all started when I was skateboarding and reading the magazines. Fell in love with the photography and all the raw and punk influenced artworks and images.
How do you get inspiration for the pieces you produce?
The best inspiration I get is when I am feeling down. That's when my mind just outputs a lot of random and emotional phrases and from these words I get inspired to draw.
What has been your best creation to date?
It's hard to say. It has to be my mag-zine. Me and my editor came up with this whole concept of how if we can't get our works up anywhere then might as well make our own and push our works even if its just us reading it. She writes a lot and I wanted to get my photography and drawings printed out. By the way my mag-zine is called Prosaic. Its not a zine and not yet a magazine. Hence, a mag-zine. I am the self-proclaimed editor-in-chief.
How much do you think hype affects the public perception of what good art is?
Firstly, hype does affect it. Secondly, "good" art...no one should ever measure art as "good" or "bad". So to answer the question, when something is new to the public's eyes, hype is essential to make that something look good. I think whatever it is people should realise that it doesn't actually mean the art is any good.
Last CD you bought/downloaded/shoplifted?
My mum kinda forced me to buy this CD for her which I wouldn't have bought on any other day. I'm really wanting to get Thrice's old albums.
How did you feel when you realised that art could make you some money?
I feel at ease because I had proven my parents wrong. Not that I have the heart to put a price to the works I do.
Why do so many people spend money on music yet so few buy art?
To each his own. I just feel that artists should help other artists. I really find comfort in the idea of buying your friends' pieces. People spend more on music because the music industry is much more in your face compared to art. Music comes to you but you must go to art.
How is your local art scene?
Segregated. Personally I feel that people judge you before they even know your name and what you do. Especially if you're a girl and you're not that hot. Just kidding. I just feel that you get a score attached to you before you can even prove yourself. People here should question the artists more, it'd make things more interesting.
What makes you happy?
My love life.
What makes you sad?
That there are more ways to describe sadness than happiness.
What's it like to be interviewed?
Good stuff. For someone who normally does the interviews, it's a good change.
Sex, drugs or rock n roll?
All.
Last book you read?
Vladimir Nabokov - Despair.
What's your favourite soup?
Cream of mushroom.
Tell us a secret?
I would turn lesbian for Adriana Lima.
Quote us your favourite song lyric?
When you'd hide your songs would die
So I'd hide yours with mine
And all my words were bound to fail
I know you won't fail
See, I can tell
-Remy Zero-
Is there a downside to being so talented?
Not that I am talented. Hmm, everyone is talented in their own ways but the downside comes when people being humans, either we crave for more or when people expect more of us. That's when the downside will come and affect us.
Ask yourself (and answer) a question?
Qn: Do you think you'd make it into Graffiti Women 2.
Ans: Yes.
What's your worst habit?
Jumping into conclusions. My fiance hates when I do that. But I love him.
Any close encounters with the law?
Only when I was skating.
What else do you like other than art?
Photography and playing my bass.
Any regrets?
Never. Ok maybe one...that I did not search for my Zero sooner in life.
Final thoughts?
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. It's crazy to be on the same page alongside the other amazing artists in your website!
