How did you get into art?
My dad was at art college when I was born, so I guess way back then. We'd go to exhibitions, go take photos, paint, draw and make things.
Then school, I was lucky to have some real cool art teachers, then art college, I remember that back then we had one computer between 30 students. Computer arts for me didn't really start until after college, maybe that was when I really got into art, pulling all previous skills together. The computer is still just another tool in the process, but when you've layed out magazines without one you really realise how powerful they are. I don't really think about it now, art is just part of everyday life.
How do you get inspiration for the pieces you produce?
SNUB has an attitude, he holds anger as a weapon. An alter ego with a mission, to fight back against the invasion of visual rubbish that attacks us all everyday. With this in mind, inspiration for a piece comes emotionally with anger, a plan of attack and visually by images I've taken or collected and then distilled. Then it comes down to media and materials really, give me a bunch of object and I'll think of something to do with them. If I had unlimited resources it would be non stop production for sure. One day maybe.
What has been your best creation to date?
Best, the one's that are fun are good, when your painting with friend, a few stencils took ages to cut, that doesn't make them the best though? There was a canvas I did for my brother's 30th birthday. I liked it and he liked it, which was it's purpose.
How much do you think hype affects the public perception of what good art is?
Art covers so many areas these days, at times it's like fashion becoming good then something else takes over. To me good art is timeless, I don't think the general public see it that way, they believe the hype. These printed fake stencil canvas that are everywhere now are a perfect example. A modern day Athena poster.
Last CD you bought/downloaded/shoplifted?
Shoplifted off the web, the new 'FreeStylers' Album, 'Adventures in Freestyle'. Track 4 'Fast Life' is a killer.
How did you feel when you realised that art could make you some money?
Can't remember, art is everywhere. If someone is willing to pay for it let them. It does make me laugh how much they will pay though.
Why do so many people spend money on music yet so few buy art?
Because so many people don't see art and don't even listen to music properly, what they buy is trash. We're talking about the general public again right?
Know any jokes?
Yeah, they're all bad or disgusting.
What makes you happy?
Heavy machinery and spray paint.
What makes you sad?
Bad graphics on massive billboards EVERYWHERE!
Sex, drugs or rock n roll?
Sex drugs? Viagra? Nah rock n roll, but only the good stuff please.
Last book you read?
The same book I keep reading 'SNOWCRASH' by Neil Stephenson.
If you ain't read it.. DO.
Tell us a secret?
Art is easy, someone somewhere will like anything you make. Finding that person is the hard bit.
Quote us your favourite song lyric?
At the moment.
'See me taking shots at the bar like I'm bullet proof'
Freestylers 'Painkiller'
What time did you get up?
Early, I live by the sea. The view is a pleasure to awake too.
Any close encounters with the law?
A few, drunken street art is not clever, but fun.
What else do like other than art?
Blag myself back stage at festivals.
Ask yourself (and answer) a question?
Is art life or life art?
Shut up you idiot and just get on and do it.
Any regrets?
That 2000ad hasn't turned out like the comic!!
Final thoughts?
Don't take it too seriously but don't think it doesn't matter.
