How did you get into art?
I have drawn since I was a child, it's something that has always made me happy. The "power" of filling in a white sheet of paper to create a Universe of my own made out of pencil and ink. I was lucky too, as my father is a graphic artist, and always provided me with information and guidance about art.
How do you get inspiration for the pieces you produce?
Much of my inspiration comes from a constant observation of images, books of several kinds, old magazines, movies, television, market packs, old documents, graphic typology and of course, the Internet.
What has been your best creation to date?
My daughter Marina, no doubt about it. As for the drawings, the best is yet to be made - tomorrow morning, who knows?
How did you feel when you realised that art could make you some money?
The first time I produced a spot for a brazilian magazine and earned enough to buy my first Rolls Royce...
Last CD you bought/downloaded/shoplifted?
I have a very eclectic (or weird) musical taste - the late Rage Against the Machine, Prodigy, Elvis, Moby... This week, I loved to see and listen to a new Rio de Janeiro rap group, called "Os Inumanos". They have a very creative clip on Youtube. Os Inumanos
What make you happy?
To be with my family, finish a good work, receive a book packet from Amazon and get a big cup of capuccino.
What makes you sad?
To never-ending wars througout the globe, poverty, and urban violence in my country...
Sex, drugs or rock n roll?
Drugs...TV programs, for one...
Last book you read?
Mischiefs of the Bad Girl by Mario Vargas Llosa.
Tell us a secret?
I'd like to win the lotto to create an art book publishing house like Taschen.
Whats your favourite soup?
Chicken soup with a lot of potatoes in it.
What else do like other than art?
To be honest, I have no hobby at all. What I like is art, images, drawings, photos, etc.
Ask yourself (and answer) a question?
What you'd like to be doing ten years from now?
To be a wealthy illustrator, with a very large studio in a private island in the middle of Atlantic Ocean.
Any regrets?
No, I think what matters is to keep going on all the time. Life is so fast, so short. Working on what you love means you've been born with lots of luck!
Final thoughts...
Draw, boy, draw!
